Black Steel Sections
Steel Beams and Sections for Structural Applications
Steel sections are the backbone of modern construction. I-beams, H-beams and channels form the load-bearing framework of industrial halls, multi-storey buildings, bridges and infrastructure. At ULAMEX, we stock a comprehensive range of hot rolled structural steel profiles conforming to EN 10365 and manufactured from non-alloy structural steel per EN 10025-2.
Our section range covers the most commonly specified European profiles. IPE beams (narrow-flange I-profiles, 80–600 mm) are widely used for floor beams and purlins. HEB beams (standard wide-flange H-profiles, 100–600 mm) serve as columns and primary beams. HEA beams (light wide-flange, 100–600 mm) provide an economical alternative where lower loads allow reduced cross-sections. UPN channels (50–400 mm) are essential for bracing, secondary framing and support structures. Equal and unequal angle steel, available from 20x20 to 200x200 mm, is used for connections, frames, towers and general fabrication.
All sections are supplied in weldable grades S235JR (1.0038) and S355J2 (1.0577), with S275JR available on request. For applications requiring higher strength or improved impact toughness at low temperatures, we recommend S355J2 — the preferred grade for bridges and exposed structures. Mill test certificate 3.1 per EN 10204 is available on request — please specify when ordering. Whether you need individual beams or project-volume quantities, our export team provides competitive quotations with short lead times.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between IPE and HEB beams?
IPE beams have narrow flanges relative to their height, making them more efficient for bending loads as floor beams and purlins. HEB beams have wider flanges equal to approximately the beam height, providing better resistance to axial loads — ideal for columns and heavy primary beams. For the same nominal height, HEB sections are heavier and have higher moment of inertia than IPE sections.
What steel grades are available for structural sections?
ULAMEX stocks steel sections primarily in S235JR (1.0038) and S355J2 (1.0577) per EN 10025-2. S275JR (1.0044) is available on request. For projects requiring certified steel, mill test certificate 3.1 is available on request and CE marking per EN 1090.
What standard lengths are available for steel beams?
Standard lengths for IPE, HEB, HEA, UPN and other profiles are 6,000 mm and 12,000 mm. Non-standard lengths (e.g. 6,500, 8,000, 10,000 mm) may be available depending on stock. Cut-to-size services are available for all profile types.
What is the difference between HEA and HEB beams?
HEA (light series) and HEB (standard series) beams share the same flange width for a given size designation, but HEA sections have thinner flanges and webs. This makes HEA beams lighter and more economical where lower loads permit. HEB sections offer higher load capacity and stiffness for the same overall height.
Does ULAMEX supply angle steel and channels?
Yes. Our range includes equal-leg angle steel (20x20 to 200x200 mm), unequal-leg angle steel (30x20 to 200x100 mm), UPN channels with tapered flanges (50–400 mm) and UPE channels with parallel flanges (80–400 mm). All profiles are available in S235JR and S355J2.
Can steel sections be cut to specific lengths?
Yes. ULAMEX provides sawing services for all section types. Beam, channel and angle sections can be cut to your exact project requirements. Please include required lengths and tolerances in your quotation request.
