PV Aluminum Clamps

ULAMEX supplies aluminium module clamps for professional photovoltaic mounting systems. Our range includes middle clamps (inter-module) and end clamps (edge) in all standard sizes from 30 mm to 50 mm — matching the frame thickness of any current solar panel. Manufactured from anodized aluminium EN AW-6060 T6, these clamps provide secure, vibration-resistant panel fixation for the lifetime of the installation.

middle clamps vs End Clamps — Choosing the Right Module Clamp

Solar panel clamps are the components that physically secure photovoltaic modules to the mounting rails (PV profiles). Two types are used in every installation:

middle clamps (also called inter-clamps or centre clamps) are placed between two adjacent modules. They grip both panels simultaneously, holding them firmly on the rail. A single middle clamp replaces two end clamps, reducing component count and installation time.

End clamps are placed at the outer edge of the array, securing the last module on each side. They grip a single panel frame and provide a clean, finished edge to the installation.

The clamp height must match the solar panel frame thickness. Most current panels have frame heights between 30 mm and 40 mm, but some manufacturers use thicker frames (up to 50 mm). ULAMEX supplies clamps in fixed sizes (30, 35, 40, 45, 50 mm) as well as universal adjustable clamps covering the 30-50 mm range.

Our clamp range includes standard bolt-on clamps and "Click" rapid-assembly clamps for faster installation. Available in silver (natural anodized) and black anodized finishes to match panel aesthetics.

How to Select the Correct Clamp Size

1. Check the panel frame height. This is specified in the module datasheet (typically 30 mm, 32 mm, 35 mm, 37 mm, 40 mm or 50 mm). 2. Select the matching clamp height. The clamp gripping height must match or slightly exceed the frame thickness. For example, a panel with a 35 mm frame requires 35 mm clamps. 3. Choose mid or end clamps. For each row of N panels, you need (N-1) middle clamps and 2 end clamps (one at each end). 4. Count 4 clamps per panel as a baseline. Two clamps per long side of the panel. In high-wind zones, increase to 6 clamps (3 per side). 5. Verify rail compatibility. ULAMEX clamps use M8 T-bolts and sliding nuts compatible with standard T-slot PV profiles.

Clamp Specifications

Recommended torque: 12-14 Nm (M8 bolt). Over-tightening may crack the panel frame.

What is the difference between a middle clamp and an end clamp?

A middle clamp sits between two adjacent solar panels and grips both frames simultaneously. An end clamp sits at the outer edge of the array and grips only one panel frame. Both perform the same clamping function, but middle clamps secure two modules with a single component — making them more efficient.

How do I determine the correct clamp size?

Check the frame height stated in your solar panel's technical datasheet. Select a clamp with a matching gripping height. For example, if the panel frame is 35 mm high, use 35 mm middle clamps and 35 mm end clamps. If unsure, our universal adjustable clamp (30-50 mm) fits all standard frame heights.

How many clamps do I need per solar panel?

Standard practice requires 4 clamps per module (2 per long side). In high-wind zones or for large-format panels (400W+), 6 clamps per module (3 per long side) are recommended. For a row of N modules, you need (N-1) middle clamps plus 2 end clamps, multiplied by 2 rows of clamps (top and bottom of the panel).

What torque should I apply to the clamp bolt?

The recommended tightening torque for M8 stainless steel bolts on aluminium clamps is 12-14 Nm. Over-tightening can crack the panel frame. Always use a calibrated torque wrench.

Are ULAMEX clamps compatible with other manufacturers' rails?

ULAMEX clamps use the industry-standard M8 T-bolt and sliding nut system, which is compatible with most T-slot PV mounting rails on the market. For guaranteed performance, we recommend pairing them with ULAMEX PV profiles.
