Stainless Steel Sheets

ULAMEX supplies stainless steel sheet and plate in a comprehensive range of grades, thicknesses and surface finishes for industrial, architectural and food-processing applications. Our stock covers smooth sheets, checker plates (tread plates) and perforated sheets in grades 1.4301 (AISI 304), 1.4404 (AISI 316L) and duplex 2205 — available in standard formats with full documentation and Europe-wide delivery.

Stainless Steel Sheets — Grades, Finishes, Formats

Stainless steel sheet is one of the most versatile semi-finished products in the metals industry. Its combination of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and aesthetic appeal makes it indispensable across sectors ranging from food and beverage to chemical processing, architecture and marine engineering.

At ULAMEX, we stock cold-rolled stainless steel sheet (up to approx. 6 mm) and hot-rolled stainless steel plate (from approx. 4 mm to 50 mm) in the standard European formats: 1000x2000, 1250x2500 and 1500x3000 mm. Thinner gauges from 0.5 mm are available for precision fabrication, whilst heavy plates up to 50 mm serve pressure vessel and structural applications.

Our surface finish range includes the standard mill finish 2B, bright annealed (BA) for hygienic environments, brushed finishes (No.4 / K240 / K320) for architectural cladding, and mirror polish (No.8) for decorative applications. We also supply specialty types: perforated sheets for ventilation and filtration, and checker plates (tear plates) for anti-slip flooring.

All sheets and plates comply with EN 10088-2 (flat products) and are available with 3.1 inspection certificates per EN 10204 on request. For projects requiring sheet in a different material, we also stock aluminium sheet and carbon steel sheet in comparable formats. As part of the broader stainless steel wholesale range from ULAMEX, sheets can be combined with matching stainless steel profiles for complete project supply.

Industries and Applications

Food and Beverage

Smooth sheets in grades 1.4301 (304) and 1.4404 (316L) with 2B or BA finish for worktops, cladding, tanks and conveyor surfaces. Grade 316L is preferred where cleaning agents contain chlorides.

Architecture and Interior Design

Brushed and mirror-finish sheets for wall cladding, column covers, elevator panels, kitchen surfaces and decorative facades. Available in all standard formats; custom cut-to-size available on request.

Chemical and Pharmaceutical

Grade 1.4404 (316L) and duplex 2205 plate for reactor vessels, storage tanks and process equipment. Hot-rolled plate up to 50 mm for pressure vessel applications per EN 10028-7.

Industrial Flooring and Access

Checker plates for platforms, stairways, walkways and loading areas where slip resistance is critical. Perforated sheets for ventilation screens, machine guards and architectural grilles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What stainless steel sheet thicknesses does ULAMEX stock?

We stock cold-rolled sheets from 0.5 mm and hot-rolled plates up to 50 mm. The most commonly ordered thicknesses are 1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm. Heavier plates (12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 mm) are available in grades 1.4404 (316L) and duplex 2205.

What is the difference between 2B, BA and brushed surface finishes?

2B is the standard cold-rolled mill finish — smooth, slightly reflective, suitable for most industrial applications. BA (Bright Annealed) is produced in a protective atmosphere and is smoother and more reflective, ideal for hygienic environments in food and pharmaceutical industries. Brushed (No.4) has a directional satin texture from mechanical polishing, preferred for visible architectural surfaces where fingerprint resistance matters.

Which grade is better for outdoor cladding — 1.4301 (304) or 1.4404 (316L)?

For standard urban environments, grade 1.4301 (304) provides sufficient corrosion resistance. For coastal areas, locations with de-icing salt exposure or industrial atmospheres containing chlorides, grade 1.4404 (316L) is recommended. In all cases, a brushed or satin finish improves the appearance and simplifies cleaning.

Does ULAMEX supply perforated and checker stainless steel sheets?

Yes. We stock perforated sheets with round and square hole patterns in grades 1.4301 and 1.4404, as well as checker plates (raised diamond pattern) for anti-slip applications. Standard formats are 1000x2000 and 1250x2500 mm.

Can ULAMEX cut stainless steel sheet to my required dimensions?

Yes. We offer cutting services including laser cutting, plasma cutting and waterjet cutting through our processing partners. Send us your requirements — grade, thickness, finish and dimensions — for a complete quotation including cutting and delivery.

What is the weight of stainless steel sheet per square metre?

Stainless steel has a density of approximately 7.93 kg/dm3. A 1 mm sheet weighs approximately 7.93 kg/m2, a 2 mm sheet approximately 15.86 kg/m2, and a 3 mm sheet approximately 23.79 kg/m2. For accurate weight calculations, multiply thickness (mm) by 7.93 to obtain kg/m2.

Does ULAMEX provide material certificates for stainless steel sheets?

Yes. All stainless steel sheets and plates are available with 3.1 inspection certificates per EN 10204 on request, confirming the specific heat's chemical composition, mechanical properties and dimensional conformity. This is standard for our B2B customers in construction, food processing and pressure equipment sectors.
