Stainless Steel Rods
Stainless Steel Bar Stock for Machining, Construction and Industry
Stainless steel rods are essential semi-finished products for mechanical engineering, precision machining, chemical processing and food industry applications. The combination of corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and hygienic surface properties makes stainless bar stock a preferred material wherever durability and cleanliness are critical. As a certified stainless steel supplier, ULAMEX delivers bar products in a comprehensive range of grades and surface finishes to professional buyers throughout Europe.
Our stainless steel rod programme covers four product forms: round bars (Rundstab) in diameters from 3 mm to 100 mm — the core of our bar range; flat bars in widths from 10 mm to 150 mm; square bars from 8x8 mm to 60x60 mm; and hexagonal bars from SW 6 to SW 46. All profiles are available in standard lengths of 3,000 mm and 6,000 mm, with cutting to size on request.
Surface condition is critical for downstream processing. We supply bright drawn bars with tight dimensional tolerances for CNC machining, centreless ground bars (h9 tolerance) for shaft and pin applications, peeled bars for larger diameters requiring close tolerances, and hot rolled black bars for general structural use. For free-machining applications, grade 303 (1.4305) offers superior machinability compared to standard 304.
Buyers sourcing both stainless and carbon steel bar products can benefit from our parallel range of black steel rods — enabling single-source procurement. For tubular products in stainless steel, see our stainless steel pipes.
Mechanical Engineering Shafts, pins, dowels and precision components machined from ground or bright drawn stainless bar stock. Grade 303 for high-volume CNC turning.
Food and Beverage Equipment frames, conveyor shafts and components meeting hygienic requirements. Grades 304 and 316L with smooth surface finishes.
Chemical and Pharmaceutical Pump shafts, valve stems and reactor components in 316L and 316Ti for resistance to aggressive media and elevated temperatures.
Construction and Architecture Anchor bolts, balustrade posts, structural fasteners and decorative elements in 304 and 316 grades.

ULAMEX has supplied stainless steel bar products since 1988. We stock round, flat, square and hexagonal bars across the most requested grades and tolerances, with Europe-wide delivery from our warehouse in Poland. Our EN 1090 certification and ISO 3834 quality management ensure consistent material quality. Mill test certificate 3.1 available on request, confirming chemical composition and mechanical properties. Cutting to length is available on request.
Frequently Asked Questions
What stainless steel rod grades does ULAMEX stock?
We stock round bars, flat bars, square bars and hexagonal bars in grades 304 (1.4301), 316L (1.4404), 303 (1.4305) and 316Ti (1.4571). Duplex 2205 (1.4462) is available on request. All grades are supplied with full material documentation per EN 10204.
What is the difference between 304 and 303 stainless steel bar?
Grade 304 (1.4301) is the standard austenitic stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance and weldability. Grade 303 (1.4305) contains added sulphur for significantly improved machinability — it is the preferred choice for CNC-turned parts, automatic lathe work and high-volume machining. However, 303 has lower corrosion resistance and is not recommended for welded structures.
What tolerances are available for stainless steel round bars?
We supply stainless steel round bars in three tolerance classes: h9 (precision ground — tight tolerances for shafts and fits), h11 (peeled or cold drawn — standard precision), and hot rolled tolerances per EN 10060 (general structural applications). The required tolerance depends on the intended downstream processing.
What surface finishes does ULAMEX offer for stainless bar?
Our stainless steel bars are available in several surface conditions: bright drawn (blank/gezogen) for CNC machining, centreless ground (geschliffen) for precision applications, peeled (geschält) for larger diameters, and hot rolled (black) for structural use. Polished finishes are available on request for decorative applications.
Does ULAMEX provide stainless steel rods with 3.1 mill certificates?
Yes. Mill test certificate 3.1 per EN 10204 is available on request for every delivery, documenting the chemical composition, mechanical properties and heat treatment condition of the supplied material. This is standard for all grades and product forms.
What diameters of stainless steel round bar are available?
We stock stainless steel round bars in diameters from 3 mm to 100 mm in standard lengths of 3,000 mm and 6,000 mm. The most commonly ordered diameters are 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 mm. Cutting to your specified length is available. Please contact us for exact stock availability.
Can ULAMEX supply stainless steel bar cut to length?
Yes. We offer precision cutting to length on all bar profiles — round, flat, square and hexagonal. Cuts are performed to your dimensions with standard sawing tolerances. This service is available for both stock items and project quantities. Include your required lengths when requesting a quote.
