Galvanized Steel Gratings and Platform Steps

ULAMEX supplies hot-dip galvanized steel gratings and platform steps for industrial, commercial and infrastructure applications. Our range includes press-locked gratings and welded gratings with bearing bar dimensions from 20x2 to 50x5 mm, mesh openings of 30x30, 30x10 and 34x38 mm, and stair treads in widths from 600 to 1,000 mm. All gratings are galvanized per ISO 1461, with anti-slip classes R11, R12 and R13.

Steel Gratings -- Load-Bearing Platforms, Walkways and Stair Treads

Steel gratings are the standard solution for industrial flooring, platforms, walkways, stair treads, trench covers and drainage applications. Hot-dip galvanized per DIN EN ISO 1461, they combine high load-bearing capacity with excellent slip resistance and long-term corrosion protection -- providing decades of maintenance-free service in the most demanding industrial environments.

ULAMEX offers two principal grating construction types. Press-locked gratings (Pressrost) feature bearing bars that are pressed into precisely punched cross bars under high pressure, creating a smooth, flush surface ideal for walkways, platforms and architectural applications. Welded gratings (Schweisspressrost) use resistance-welded connections between bearing bars and twisted cross bars, offering robust load capacity at an economical price point -- the preferred choice for industrial platforms, mezzanines and heavy-duty applications.

Our grating programme includes flat gratings for platforms and mezzanines, stair treads with nosing in widths of 600, 800 and 1,000 mm, trench covers and drainage gratings, and light well covers. All gratings are manufactured from structural steel grade S235JR and hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ISO 1461.

Gratings are available with smooth bearing bars for standard applications or with serrated (toothed) bearing bars for enhanced slip resistance to class R11, R12 or R13 per DIN 51130. Frames, edge trimming and toe plates can be supplied upon request. Contact our team for project-specific dimensions and load requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between press-locked and welded gratings?

Press-locked gratings (Pressrost) have cross bars mechanically pressed into slotted bearing bars, creating a smooth, flush surface. They are preferred for walkways, platforms and architectural uses. Welded gratings (Schweisspressrost) use resistance-welded twisted cross bars, offering higher load capacity at lower cost. They are the standard choice for industrial platforms, heavy-duty mezzanines and mechanical areas.

What bearing bar sizes does ULAMEX stock?

ULAMEX supplies gratings with bearing bars in the following dimensions: 20x2, 25x3, 25x5, 30x2, 30x3, 40x5 and 50x5 mm. The bearing bar height determines the grating's overall height and load capacity. For specific load requirements, contact our team with the span, load type and applicable safety factors.

What mesh sizes are available for steel gratings?

Standard mesh openings include 30x30 mm and 30x10 mm for press-locked gratings, and 34x38 mm (also 33x33 mm and 33x11 mm) for welded gratings. Finer mesh sizes (30x10, 33x11) are recommended where smaller objects must not fall through, such as in food processing or cleanroom environments.

What slip resistance classes are offered?

Gratings with smooth bearing bars provide standard slip resistance. For enhanced anti-slip performance, serrated (toothed) bearing bars are available, achieving slip resistance classes R11, R12 and R13 per DIN 51130. R11 is suitable for most industrial walkways; R12 and R13 are specified for wet, oily or inclined surfaces.

Can ULAMEX supply gratings cut to custom dimensions?

Yes. In addition to standard sizes (600x800, 800x1000, 1000x1000 mm and others), we supply gratings cut to your specified dimensions including custom shapes, frames and edge trims. Provide your project dimensions and we will include custom sizes in your quotation.

What are typical applications for galvanized steel gratings?

Steel gratings are used for industrial mezzanine flooring, machine platform decks, staircase treads, trench and channel covers, drainage gratings, light well covers, ventilation grilles, access walkways in warehouses and production facilities, parking structure levels, and wastewater treatment plant platforms.
