PV Profiles
PV Profiles — The Core of Every Solar Mounting System
A PV mounting rail, also known as a solar profile or mounting channel, is the horizontal structural member that supports solar panels on a roof or ground-mounted array. The rail is fixed to roof handles (on pitched roofs) or ballast brackets (on flat roofs), and solar modules are secured to the rail using middle clamps and end clamps.
ULAMEX PV profiles are extruded from aluminium alloy EN AW-6060 T6, known for its excellent combination of tensile strength (min. 190 MPa), formability and natural corrosion resistance. The T-slot channel along the profile allows tool-free attachment of clamps and connectors using T-bolts and sliding nuts — enabling fast, efficient installation on site.
Our range covers standard profiles (40x40 mm), reinforced profiles (80x40 mm) for high wind/snow load zones, trapezoidal bridge profiles for metal roof applications, and hammer-head profiles for T-bolt compatibility. Available in mill finish (silver) and anodized finishes, with standard lengths from 2220 mm to 6600 mm. Custom cutting is available on request.
Where Are PV Profiles Used?
- roof handles, panels secured with clamps. Standard 40x40 profiles for residential, 80x40 for high-load commercial.
Pitched roofs
rails mounted on
Flat roofs
profiles mounted on ballast brackets or tilt triangles. East-west and south-facing configurations.
Ground-mounted arrays
long-span profiles (6000 mm) on steel foundations for solar farms.
- Carport structures — integrated into aluminium carport frames for dual-purpose installations.
Trapezoidal / metal roofs
bridge profiles span between sheet ribs, creating a flat mounting surface for standard PV rails.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 40x40 mm and 80x40 mm PV profiles?
The 40x40 mm profile is the standard rail for most residential and light commercial installations. The 80x40 mm profile offers roughly double the moment of inertia and is used where higher wind or snow loads require greater span capacity — typically on commercial/industrial buildings or in exposed locations.
What aluminium alloy are the PV profiles made from?
ULAMEX PV profiles are made from EN AW-6060 T6 (AlMgSi alloy in T6 temper). This alloy provides a minimum tensile strength of 190 MPa, excellent corrosion resistance without coating, and easy machinability for on-site cutting.
What is the maximum span between support points?
For a standard 40x40 mm profile with a typical wind/snow load, the maximum recommended span is approximately 1200-1400 mm. For 80x40 mm profiles, spans of up to 2000 mm are achievable. Exact values depend on the static calculation for your specific project.
Can I mix PV profiles from different manufacturers?
ULAMEX profiles use industry-standard T-slot dimensions compatible with most common clamp systems. However, we recommend using profiles and clamps from the same supplier to ensure optimal fit and load transfer. Our complete range covers all necessary components.
Are anodized PV profiles better than mill-finish profiles?
Anodized profiles have an additional aluminium oxide surface layer that enhances corrosion resistance and provides a uniform aesthetic appearance. For standard installations, mill-finish EN AW-6060 T6 already offers excellent outdoor durability. Anodized profiles are recommended for coastal environments or where visual consistency is important.
Does ULAMEX supply trapezoidal bridge profiles?
Yes. Our trapezoidal bridge profiles span between the ribs of trapezoidal sheet metal roofs, creating a flat mounting surface for standard PV rails. Available in H25 and standard configurations for various rib spacings.
