Stainless Steel Profiles — L-Angles, Flat Bars, Square and Hexagonal Bars from ULAMEX
ULAMEX supplies a comprehensive range of stainless steel profiles including equal and unequal L-angles, flat bars, square bars and hexagonal bars in grade 1.4301 (AISI 304). All profiles are available in standard length 6000 mm with wall thicknesses from 1.0 to 4.0 mm and dimensions ranging from 10×10 mm up to 200×100 mm. Three surface finishes are stocked as standard: raw (mill finish), ground/brushed (satin) and polished (mirror). As an EN 1090 certified wholesale supplier with over 38 years of experience, ULAMEX delivers stainless steel profiles to industrial and commercial customers across Europe — from single-bar orders to full project quantities.
Material Grades and Properties
Our stainless steel profiles are manufactured from grade 1.4301 (AISI 304 / X5CrNi18-10), the most widely specified austenitic stainless steel for structural and decorative applications. This chromium-nickel alloy offers an outstanding combination of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and mechanical strength — making it the standard choice for L-angles, flat bars, square bars and hexagonal bars used in construction, industry and architecture.
| Property | Grade 1.4301 (AISI 304) |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength (Rm) | 500–700 MPa |
| Yield Strength (Rp0.2) | min. 190 MPa |
| Elongation (A5) | min. 45% |
| Hardness (HB) | max. 215 |
| Density | 7.93 kg/dm³ |
| Weldability | Excellent (TIG, MIG, MMA) |
For applications in marine, chemical or chloride-exposed environments, stainless steel profiles in grade 1.4404 (AISI 316L) are available on request. The molybdenum content in 316L provides substantially improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it the preferred choice for coastal installations, chemical plants and food processing facilities using chlorinated cleaning agents.
Surface Finishes
ULAMEX stocks stainless steel profiles in three standard surface finishes, each suited to different functional and aesthetic requirements. The available finish for each dimension and wall thickness is indicated in the stock table below.
- Raw (Mill Finish): As-rolled surface with the natural oxide layer intact. This is the most economical option, suitable for structural applications, concealed frameworks, machine building and any installation where visual appearance is not a primary concern. Raw profiles can be ground or polished on-site if required at a later stage.
- Ground / Brushed (Satin, K240): The profile surface is mechanically ground to a uniform satin finish with a grain direction (typically K240 grit). This provides a smooth, non-reflective appearance with consistent texture — the standard specification for visible architectural elements, handrails, balustrades, facade cladding and interior fittings where a professional finish is expected.
- Polished (Mirror): A high-gloss, mirror-like surface achieved through progressive mechanical polishing. Polished profiles are specified for decorative applications, food and pharmaceutical equipment (where smooth surfaces are required for hygiene), retail interiors, elevator cladding and premium architectural details. The mirror finish also maximises corrosion resistance by minimising surface micro-roughness.
Available Dimensions

Applications
Stainless steel profiles are among the most versatile semi-finished products in industrial and architectural construction. The range of available cross-sections — L-angles for corner joints, flat bars for cladding and trim, square bars for frameworks, hexagonal bars for precision components — makes them indispensable across a wide spectrum of industries.
- Architectural Facades and Interior Design: Brushed and polished L-angles and flat bars for facade cladding substructures, curtain wall supports, decorative trim, handrails, balustrades and staircase details. Stainless steel profiles provide a clean, modern aesthetic with zero maintenance in exposed outdoor environments.
- Food and Pharmaceutical Equipment: Profiles in grade 304 (or 316L for aggressive cleaning agents) for equipment frames, worktable structures, conveyor supports, shelving systems and hygiene partitions. The smooth, non-porous surface of polished profiles meets the stringent cleanliness requirements of HACCP and GMP-certified production environments.
- Chemical Processing and Water Treatment: L-angles and flat bars for pipe supports, tank reinforcements, platform structures and cable tray systems in corrosive atmospheres. Grade 1.4301 withstands most organic acids and mild chemical exposure; grade 1.4404 is recommended for chloride-bearing environments.
- Marine and Offshore Structures: Profiles for vessel fittings, harbour infrastructure, offshore platform components and coastal architectural elements. Grade 316L provides the necessary resistance to saltwater, spray and marine atmospheres.
- Machine Building and Automation: Square bars and flat bars for machine frames, linear guides, mounting brackets, jig construction and conveyor system components. The dimensional accuracy and consistent mechanical properties of stainless steel profiles ensure reliable performance in precision engineering applications.
- Railings, Fencing and Safety Barriers: L-angles and square bars for railing posts, infill panels, protective guards and perimeter fencing in public buildings, commercial premises and industrial facilities — combining structural integrity with corrosion resistance and visual appeal.
Standards and Certifications
Stainless steel profiles from ULAMEX comply with EN 10088-3 for stainless steel semi-finished products (bars, rods, wire, sections and bright products). Material composition and mechanical properties conform to EN 10088-1. Dimensional tolerances for angles follow EN 10056, for flat bars EN 10058, and for square and hexagonal bars EN 10059/EN 10061. Inspection certificates EN 10204 Type 3.1 are available on request, providing full heat traceability with certified chemical analysis and mechanical test results. ULAMEX holds EN 1090 certification for structural steel components and ISO 3834 for welding quality management — see our certifications page for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
What stainless steel grades are available for profiles?
Our standard stock is grade 1.4301 (AISI 304 / X5CrNi18-10), which is suitable for the vast majority of structural, architectural and industrial applications. For environments with elevated chloride exposure — such as marine structures, coastal buildings, swimming pool areas, chemical plants or food processing facilities using chlorinated cleaning agents — we supply grade 1.4404 (AISI 316L) on request. Contact our team at [email protected] to discuss grade selection for your specific application.
What is the difference between ground and polished finish?
Ground (brushed/satin) finish is achieved by mechanical abrasion, typically with K240 grit, producing a uniform directional grain with a matte, non-reflective appearance. This is the standard choice for visible architectural applications such as handrails, facade trim and interior fittings. Polished (mirror) finish involves progressive polishing to achieve a highly reflective, mirror-like surface. It is specified for decorative elements, food and pharmaceutical equipment (where minimal surface roughness is critical for hygiene) and premium architectural details. Polished profiles also offer marginally better corrosion resistance due to the reduced micro-roughness of the surface.
Can profiles be cut to custom lengths?
Yes. While our standard stock length is 6000 mm, we offer a precision sawing service to cut profiles to your exact requirements. Multiple pieces can be cut from a single bar to minimise material waste. Include your required lengths and quantities when requesting a quote, and we will provide pricing inclusive of cutting.
What is the standard length for stainless steel profiles?
All stainless steel profiles in our stock are supplied in a standard length of 6000 mm (6 metres). This is the industry-standard bar length for stainless steel profiles and allows efficient transport and processing. For projects requiring shorter or non-standard lengths, our cut-to-length service is available.
Does ULAMEX provide material certificates?
Yes. Inspection certificates to EN 10204 Type 3.1 are available on request for all stainless steel profiles. These mill test certificates provide full heat traceability, including certified chemical composition, mechanical test results (tensile strength, yield strength, elongation) and dimensional verification. Request 3.1 certificates when placing your order or contact us for more information.
