Double T-Bars — Stainless Steel I-Beams from ULAMEX

Stainless steel double T-bars (I-beams, H-beams, IPE and HEB profiles) are heavy structural sections with a symmetrical cross-section consisting of two horizontal flanges connected by a vertical web. ULAMEX supplies double T-bars in grade 1.4301 (AISI 304) in standard length 6000 mm, available on request for structural, industrial and architectural projects across Europe. As load-bearing profiles designed for maximum bending resistance with minimal material weight, stainless steel I-beams are specified wherever structural integrity and corrosion resistance must be combined — from food processing plants and chemical facilities to marine structures and architectural landmarks.

Material Grades and Properties

Our stainless steel double T-bars are manufactured from grade 1.4301 (AISI 304 / X5CrNi18-10), the most widely used austenitic stainless steel in structural engineering. This chromium-nickel alloy provides the strength required for load-bearing applications combined with excellent corrosion resistance in atmospheric, freshwater and mildly chemical environments. The symmetrical I-profile geometry distributes loads efficiently, making it the preferred section for beams, columns and portal frames.

PropertyGrade 1.4301 (AISI 304)

Yield Strength (Rp0.2)min. 190 MPa
Elongation (A5)min. 45%
Hardness (HB)max. 215

For projects in aggressive environments — marine, chemical processing, offshore or pharmaceutical — double T-bars in grade 1.4404 (AISI 316L) and duplex 2205 (1.4462) can be sourced on request. These grades offer enhanced resistance to pitting corrosion, chloride stress corrosion cracking and high-temperature degradation respectively.

Applications

Stainless steel double T-bars are specified for primary structural elements where the combination of high bending resistance, low self-weight and corrosion immunity is essential. They are the most structurally efficient profile shape for beam and column applications.

  • Food and Beverage Processing: Main structural frames, overhead crane beams, mezzanine floor supports and process hall columns in dairy plants, breweries and meat processing facilities. Grade 304 ensures structural integrity through decades of washdown and steam-cleaning cycles.
  • Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry: Process building frameworks, reactor support structures, pipe rack beams and platform girders in environments with acid vapours, chemical splash and high humidity. Grade 316L or duplex 2205 for concentrated corrosive atmospheres.
  • Architecture and Exposed Structures: Feature beams, canopy supports, glazed atrium frameworks and exposed structural elements in public buildings, airports, stations and commercial centres where the structure itself serves as an aesthetic element.
  • Marine and Offshore: Hull structural members, superstructure beams, platform support girders and jetty frameworks. Grade 316L or duplex 2205 for permanent saltwater and spray exposure. Stainless steel I-beams offer decades of maintenance-free service in marine environments.
  • Water Treatment and Energy: Structural frames for filtration plants, desalination installations, cooling tower supports and power station frameworks where conventional carbon steel would require constant maintenance and protective coatings.

Standards and Certifications

Stainless steel double T-bars supplied by ULAMEX comply with EN 10088-3 for stainless steel semi-finished products. Dimensional tolerances conform to EN 10034 for structural I and H sections. Material properties are per EN 10088-1. Inspection certificates EN 10204 Type 3.1 are available on request, providing certified chemical composition, mechanical test results and heat traceability. ULAMEX holds EN 1090 certification for structural steelwork and ISO 3834 for welding quality management — visit our certifications page for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IPE and HEB stainless steel beams?
IPE (European I-beam) profiles have narrower flanges relative to their height, offering an efficient strength-to-weight ratio for beam applications where the primary load acts vertically. HEB (European wide-flange beam) profiles have wider, heavier flanges — equal to or wider than the web height — providing superior resistance to lateral forces and buckling, making them the preferred choice for columns, portal frames and applications with combined axial and bending loads. Both series are available in stainless steel from ULAMEX.

Can ULAMEX supply stainless steel I-beams in grade 316L or duplex?
Yes. While our standard offering is grade 1.4301 (304), we can source double T-bars in grade 1.4404 (316L) for marine and chemical environments, and duplex 2205 (1.4462) for applications requiring higher mechanical strength combined with exceptional corrosion resistance. Lead times for non-standard grades depend on current mill availability. Contact our team with your project specifications for pricing and delivery.

Are stainless steel double T-bars suitable for EN 1090 structural applications?
Yes. ULAMEX holds EN 1090 certification for structural steelwork. All double T-bars are available with 3.1 inspection certificates per EN 10204, confirming grade, dimensional compliance and mechanical properties. This ensures full conformity with the European Construction Products Regulation for load-bearing steel structures in buildings, bridges and infrastructure.

What are typical lead times for stainless steel I-beams?
Stainless steel double T-bars are specialist products typically produced to order rather than stocked in large quantities. Lead times vary from 2-4 weeks for standard IPE/HEB sizes in grade 304, to 4-8 weeks for larger sections or special grades (316L, duplex). We recommend contacting us early in your project planning.
